The U.S. EPA Gulf of Mexico Program recently announced that te Gulf of Mexico Ocean Observing System (GCOOS), Regional Association will receive a Gulf Guardian Award for 2011 in the Partnership category for their work on the integration of and regional enhancements to the GCOOS. Major achievement includes the development of the GCOOS Data Portal. Felimon Gayanilo is the system developer and architect of the GCOOS Data Portal (http://gcoos.rsmas.miami.edu) and thankful to all who made the regional portal a possibility (IOOS, GCOOS RA, GCOOS DMAC, LDNs and other NFRA regional associations -- among the many).

February 18, 2011. Key Biscayne, FL

 

Felimon Gayanilo joined the Collaborative Research Exchange Forum (CREF) held last February 18, 2011, in an effort to enhance collaborative research between the RSMAS and engineering faculty. The interdisciplinary theme for the February 18 CREF was “Environmental Sensing”.

September 14-16, 2010. Memphis, TN

 

Felimon Gayanilo participated in the last Q2O workshop to discuss how best to incorporate QA/QC flags and procedures to SOS implementations and other forms of sensor metadata using SensorML schema. The workshop was held in Memphis, TN that included: Mike Botts (Botts IR), Eric Bridger (GMRI), Janet Fredericks (WHOI), Tony Cook (UAH), Darryl Symonds (RDI), Patricia White (WHOI), and Carlos Rueda (MBARI).

 

July 21, 2010. Knoxville, TN

 

Felimon Gayanilo participated in the "Modeling sustainability of coral reef ecosystem services under multiple interacting stressors" NIMBioS workshop held at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (TN). NIMBioS is supported by NSF, USDHS, USDA and UT, Knoxville.
